HISTORY

Our connection with the world of shoes can be traced back to the 18th century, in the village of Santa Coloma de Farners, where Hilari Gubau was a maker of shoe-laces. During the following generations the family became sandal-makers, clog-makers, and finally shoe-makers…. At which point Pere Gubau i Ribas settled in Girona. His son, Joaquim Gubau i Puig, followed in his footsteps and, with a true entrepreneurial spirit, set up his own business in the city’s Plaça del Vi: this was the first Peacock shop.

The secret of Peacock’s success lies in the passionate interest in shoes taken by Joaquim and his wife Rosa. Their first concern is always their customers’ requirements and finding the best way to satisfy them with specialised high-quality products of innovative design.

The high quality of their work was also carried over into the world of advertising when they created their own calendars in the 1970s, and into the field of shop-window design, for which they won several prizes in Girona.

Their total commitment to the business has been passed on to their children, three of whom, Pere, Quim and Rosa, have decided to follow on in the trade. Hard work, devotion and an entrepreneurial spirit have led to the continued expansion of the business, which currently consists of a chain of 12 shops. The differences between the various types of shop make it indispensable to have an excellent team providing support, and to offer a high degree of specialisation in terms of the various makes of shoe.
